Dynamite!! put on their Dream, Sengoku and K1 card yesterday to end the MMA calendar for 2009 and bring us into 2010 and what a card it was! The Japanese certainly know how to put on a great MMA show and we had a large mix of fights including the Dream Vs Segonku fights which added a nice layer of tension to the proceedings as the final fight in that set was the decider.

Notable winners of the evening included Gegard Mousasi putting a clinical beating on Gary Goodridge who had no answers and was left on the canvas taking shots to the head before the ref jumped in to stop the fight. It wasn’t an upset but Mousasi still showed the usual calm and finesse when it comes to finishing opponents.

Shinya Aoki and Mizuto Hirota squared off to decided the winner of the Dream Vs Sengoku matches with both teams even before the final bout. But it didn’t take long for Aoki in his brightly coloured grappling pants to put Mizuto down and get his arm behind his back before finishing him off with a submission that Mizuto should have verbally tapped from but didn’t leaving Aoki to break his arm for the win.

Melvin Manhoef put in a upset winning performance against Kazuo Misaki and landing two clean hooks and dropping Misaki in the first round, the ref jumped in just a little bit to early, stopping the fight in Manhoef’s favour, but it was likely Misaki would be on the receiving end of some dangerous ground and pound, but still an early stoppage.

In a big upset Ikuhisa Minowa took on Rameau Sokoudjou in the final of the Dream Super Hulk Tournament which saw the fight to to round 3 where, Minowa stopped Sokodjou with some dangerous punches before the ref called a stop to the proceedings naming Minowa the underdog winner of the Super Hulk Tournament.

Masonori Kanehara took on Kid Yamamoto and won a very close decision with Kanehara dropping Yamamoto in rounds one and two and Kid returning the favour back in the third just a little to late to really sway the fight.

Akihiro Gono put on a masterclass on the favorite Hayato Sakurai with a slick triangle submission that saw Gono return to winning ways in pretty impressive fashion, which i though was very important especially after his crazy pop star laden entrance!

Alastair Overeem also walked away with a first round TKO over Kazuyuki Fujita after landing an insane knee that saw Fujita down for the count straight away, obviously mismatched it still tells us nothing about Overeem current MMA level and hopefully he will soon visit the USA to take on more legitimate competition.

Overall an amazing card that was full of great battles, worthy fight of the night contenders, lots of upsets and a whole load of big show atmosphere, next we have UFC 108 to look forward too, i’m sure it’s not going to match up but I’m going to stay hopeful.
