In todays MMA Vs we have Lyoto Machida Vs Anderson Silva

MMA Vs pits two MMA fighters together and you have to pick a winner, we match up two fifers who might never get to meet in a cage and we take a vote to see how you guys would call it.  Weigh classes don’t matter here and thats the great thing we can put a heavyweight in with a lightweight just to see how you guys would see it playing out.

This week in MMA Vs our fantasy matchmaker we have the light heavyweight fight that everyone really wants to see.  However the chances of Lyoto Machida and Anderson Silva squaring off in the Octagon are very very slim, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take a vote on how we all would see this fight going down.

Lyoto Machida the current UFC light heavyweight champion is as elusive as they come and hasn’t lost a round in the UFC in his career to date, his fast striking mixed with a good grappling and Ju Jitsu and Sumo background make Machida one of the hardest opponents to face in the Octagon.

Anderson Silva is on a similar path his striking is deadly and is considered by many to be the pound for pound world champion.  Silva possesses something of a similar fighting stance to Machida with them both being big counter strikers, but if this fight went down you would possibly see one of the greatest tactical fights ever in MMA.

So who is your money on would Silva’s striking be to much for the elusive Machida or would the Dragon make Silva look like an amateur?

Anderson Silva shocked the crowd and possibly won himself back some fans with his first round destruction of Forrest Griffin.  Silva was able to pick Forrest off with some strong punches that put the fan favorite on his back a few times before launching his own attack. Silva managed to dodge the attacks like one of the agents out of the Matrix with minimal head movement, before answering back with a jab that Forrest walked into and put him down for the night.

Amir Sadollah finally made his return to the Cage but it was short lived Johnny Hendricks hit him with a barrage of punches that put him on his knees and the ref jumped in, possibly too early and ended the bout.  You can check out the rest of the UFC 101 card results below.

UFC 101 is almost here, all set to go down tonight in Philadelphia, the famous fight town and the first time the UFC has been here. The main events at UFC 101 are of course Anderson Silva Vs Forrest Griffin, and B J Penn Vs Kenny Florian for the lightweight title belt.

Here at MMA Linkage we have had our UFC 101 polls up for the last few weeks and you guys have been voting on who you see coming out on top. The voting hasn’t been as heated as the UFC 100 voting but we will forgive you this time as long as you put more effort in for UFC 102. This has the potential to be a real heated battle, both guys are very talented with Kenny Florian the pretender to B J Penn’s throne, so how did the voting go. Well the majority is siding with Florian on this one with Kenflo getting the majority of the votes to win by decision or TKO.

Finally we have Josh Neer Vs Kurt Pellegrino who both have had their last losses in the Octagon coming via Nate Diaz, Neer lost a decision and Pellegrino got submitted and you guys voted and have Pellegrino winning this one.

So now it’s time to wait for the main event and see how well these fights were called.

In round 2 of Fox Fight Game the co main event fight between Anderson Silva and Forrest Griffin is discussed and they also chat to Aaron Simpson who was in the same wrestling team with Ryan Bader, CB Dollaway and Cain Velasquez and is currently 5-0 and fighting in the UFC in the next UFC fight night.

It’s less than a week now till UFC 101 Declaration hits our screens and as this big UFC event draws closer we have more and more predictions for the card. The Main event of the night is B J Penn Vs Kenny Florian for the UFC Lightweight title and this is going to be a hard fight to call.  After GSP took a win over B J Penn, doubt is surely setting in, is Florian ready to take the title?  We will find out on the 8th of August 2009.

Anderson Silva Vs Forrest Griffin is the co main event of the evening and what a co main event it is.  Forrest Griffin recently said if anyone is going to beat Anderson Silva why shouldn’t it be me.  And he’s got a good point, Griffin is known for turning in great performances in big fights against high ranked fighters and they don’t rank much higher than Anderson Silva.

So without any delay lets go on to the reason behind this post, let’s view the UFC 101 prediction videos.

At UFC 101 we have 4 fights on the main card, the first co main event is Lightweight champion BJ Penn, coming off his loss to GSP at an agreed 170 lbs weight class.  Penn is facing a very focused and tough Kenny Florian who’s been waiting on this fight for a long time and when the time comes, Florian is going to have a massive height and reach advantage over his opponent.  This is all set to be a great fight, the question is did BJ look bad in the GSP because GSP is so good, or will Kenny Florian have his number too, and make it look as though B J Penn is a fighter of the past, either way it’s not a great situation for Kenny Florian, but at the end of the day he’s finally getting his title shot.  This is going to be a tough fight to call a prediction for, with both fighters having the ability to go the distance or finish the first early, there is a massive height advantage for Florian, is this going to be a factor?

The second co main event at UFC 101 Declaration is Anderson Silva’s second fight at light heavyweight, his first was of course his pin point punch destruction of James Irvin in a very quick sixty one seconds.  This time around Silva has much tougher competition in the Ultimate fighter winner Forrest Griffon, who has a similar height and reach to Anderson Silva and can pose a problem to anyone in a given night.  This fight could go two ways, okay it could go anyway, this is MMA, but the main thing to look for here will be a couple of points.  If Forrest gets tagged early by a very accurate Anderson Silva punch or knee, how will it affect him, and also how well is Forrest  going to be able to strike with Anderson Silva, will the reach give him the advantage that nearly all of Silva’s previous opponents have lacked.  While Forrest is tall and a big light heavyweight in build, he just doesn’t have the pedigree of Anderson Silva in any area, but you could have said that when he fought Shogun or Rampage and it’s exactly what makes this fight so intriguing.  Calling predictions on this fight between Forrest and Silva is in all truth much easier than the other main event fight, Anderson Silva has a pretty amazing unbeaten record in the UFC and Forrest Griffon doesn’t, however we all know strange things can happen on the night do you think this is going to be one?

The other fights on the main card are Amir Sadollah Vs Johny Hendricks, Kendall Grove Vs Ricardo Almeida, and Josh Neer Vs Kurt Pellegrino.  Out of those 3 fights you have a interesting match with Kendall Grove Vs Ricardo Almeida, with Grove coming off an impressive knockout of Jason Day, using that long reach of his to his advantage.   Also nice to see Kurt Pellegrino back in the cage, he always puts on interesting fights to watch.
