UFC 101 Declaration – Fight Card and Predictions

UFC 101 Declaration is the next MMA event to be hosted by the UFC and we will be bringing you all the predictions and news for this upcoming event to be held in Philadelphia on the 8th of August 2009.  This UFC card is going to be pretty awesome, but it has it work cut out competing with the amazingly stacked UFC 100 card, which had two Championship belt title fights.   UFC 101 can only manage one title fight this time, and it’s for the UFC Lightweight belt.

At UFC 101 we have 4 fights on the main card, the first co main event is Lightweight champion BJ Penn, coming off his loss to GSP at an agreed 170 lbs weight class.  Penn is facing a very focused and tough Kenny Florian who’s been waiting on this fight for a long time and when the time comes, Florian is going to have a massive height and reach advantage over his opponent.  This is all set to be a great fight, the question is did BJ look bad in the GSP because GSP is so good, or will Kenny Florian have his number too, and make it look as though B J Penn is a fighter of the past, either way it’s not a great situation for Kenny Florian, but at the end of the day he’s finally getting his title shot.  This is going to be a tough fight to call a prediction for, with both fighters having the ability to go the distance or finish the first early, there is a massive height advantage for Florian, is this going to be a factor?

The second co main event at UFC 101 Declaration is Anderson Silva’s second fight at light heavyweight, his first was of course his pin point punch destruction of James Irvin in a very quick sixty one seconds.  This time around Silva has much tougher competition in the Ultimate fighter winner Forrest Griffon, who has a similar height and reach to Anderson Silva and can pose a problem to anyone in a given night.  This fight could go two ways, okay it could go anyway, this is MMA, but the main thing to look for here will be a couple of points.  If Forrest gets tagged early by a very accurate Anderson Silva punch or knee, how will it affect him, and also how well is Forrest  going to be able to strike with Anderson Silva, will the reach give him the advantage that nearly all of Silva’s previous opponents have lacked.  While Forrest is tall and a big light heavyweight in build, he just doesn’t have the pedigree of Anderson Silva in any area, but you could have said that when he fought Shogun or Rampage and it’s exactly what makes this fight so intriguing.  Calling predictions on this fight between Forrest and Silva is in all truth much easier than the other main event fight, Anderson Silva has a pretty amazing unbeaten record in the UFC and Forrest Griffon doesn’t, however we all know strange things can happen on the night do you think this is going to be one?

The other fights on the main card are Amir Sadollah Vs Johny Hendricks, Kendall Grove Vs Ricardo Almeida, and Josh Neer Vs Kurt Pellegrino.  Out of those 3 fights you have a interesting match with Kendall Grove Vs Ricardo Almeida, with Grove coming off an impressive knockout of Jason Day, using that long reach of his to his advantage.   Also nice to see Kurt Pellegrino back in the cage, he always puts on interesting fights to watch.
