UFC 108 – Results

With UFC 108 probably toting up the most fallouts and lost fighters ever in a UFC it’s still nice to see that the card still looked pretty damn solid come fight night.  With a main card of Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva squaring off for the reputed No1 light heavyweight contender spot and up and comer Paul Daley taking on BJJ expert Dustin Hazelett filling in the co main event slot.

Zuffa also did the nice tactic this time of adding two of the prelims onto a spike TV airing before the main PPV card starts and they are definitely the most interesting out of the undercard, in reality though we actually got three which were all later shown on the main card but you can’t win them all!

Junior Dos Santos had a good night against Gilbert Yvel taking less than one round to finish off the Dutch striker with a left hook that only clipped Yvel but put him down where Dos Santos finished it off as Yvel turtled up causing the ref to step in and end the bout.  Another solid win for Dos Santos fight and it does move him up the ladder in a currently quite stacked heavyweight division.

Sam Stout and Dan Lauzon went the full three rounds but Lauzon was unable to catch Stout in any submission and Stout was far superior with his hands.  We saw lots of combo’s spinning back fists and kicks that Lauzon just had no answer for, a good and much needed win for Stout and it will be interesting to see who Joe Silva matches him up against next.

Jim Miller took the fight to Duane Ludwig who had pretty much no answer for the well rounded miller who finished the fight off early with a nice submission.

Paul Daley lived up to his ‘Semtex’ nickname and he waited patiently for chance to throw a massive overhand left that clocked Dustin Hazelett and put him down where Daley jumped on top landing a few clean punches on the chin for a decisive win over a dangerous submission specialist, and definitely moves Daley’s stock up.

In the main even of the night Rashad Evans squared off against Thiago Silva and Rashad dominated the first two round with flurries of punches and takedowns that controlled the Brazilian.  Only in the third round did Silva come back with a punch that caught Rashad and had him on wobbly legs for the remainder of the round, but the first two rounds proved to be enough for Rashad to take the win over a game opponent.  Does this prove that Rashad is the new number one contender i don’t know.
